Required Reading

Anyone who wants to be a good, diverse writer should also read a lot, or so I’ve heard.  I’ve gone through a lot of science and not much else recently (I’m ashamed to say most of my creative entertainment comes in movie-form), but the following list is a few of my personal favorites over the years:

  • The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe
  • Because I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickenson
  • The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
  • The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats
  • The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell
  • i by JW Curry

Short Stories/ Novellas:

  • The Deathbird by Harlan Ellison
  • How to Write a Blackwood Article + A Predicament by Edgar Allen Poe
  • The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin

Novels/ Series:

  • Midworld by Alan Dean Foster
  • A Wizard of Earthsea (series) by Ursula K. Le Guin
  • A Great and Terrible Beauty (series) by Libba Bray
  • Tithe (series) by Holly Black
  • Everworld (series) by KA Applegate
  • And a great many others that I can’t quite recall at the moment. 😀
